Peter van Elsuwege is Professor of European Union law at University of Ghent, Belgium. He holds a PhD in law from University of Ghent (2007). His research activities focus on the law of EU external relations. Specific attention is devoted to the legal framework of the relations between the European Union and its East European neighbours. Peter Van Elsuwege is also the academic coordinator of a Jean Monnet Module on “The Legal Dimension of EU External Relations” and an affiliated member of the Centre for the Law of EU External Relations (CLEER) and the Centre for Russian International, Socio-Political and Economic Studies (CERISE).
In times of rising interest of Eastern Neighbourhood and Caucasian countries to tie its bonds stronger with the EU the lecture makes an important contribution towards a better understanding of EU’s external policy.
