Throughout its twenty-odd years of existence, the Visegrad Group (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) has been a forum for political cooperation. After their accession to the EU, members of the group stood united and have been avid proponents the Eastern Partnership program. Given the current volatile political-security environment in the EU’s eastern neighborhood, the V4 is under challenge, both in terms of its own security and its role as a European “gatekeeper” towards post-Soviet space.
Speakers of this roundtable will therefore discuss divergent threat perceptions in the V4, as well as regional initiatives ranging from hard security (the V4 Battle Group) to soft security (development aid towards the East).
