The second instalment of AJKC’s annual Foreign and Security Policy Conference series entitled “Our Past and Present in the Shadow of the Cold War” taking place 6-7 November 2014 in Budapest, was held with the objective to bring together Hungarian and international academic experts, policy-makers, and opinion-formers to address a relevant issue of international relations by discussing its most important events and phenomena. The 2014 event revolved around the 25 years that have passed since the conclusion of the Cold War and the regime changes of Poland, Hungary, and former Czechoslovakia. On this occasion, the conference investigated the relevant history and legacy of the Cold War in order to facilitate an understanding of current developments in global affairs. In light of the above-mentioned historical facts, the countries of the Visegrád Cooperation represented a permanent focus for the conference.

This spring, AJKC organises a workshop focusing on the effects the Cold War had on the V4 countries. The goal of the workshop is to encourage students to initiate lively discussions with each other in an informal environment, and deepen their knowledge of the topic through interactive exercises, such as case scenarios, small group discussions of challenging questions, problem sets, etc., as well as form new relationships and further improve the cooperation between the countries.

Workshop Schedule - 10 April (Friday)

Morning topic: The Dissolution of the Warsaw Pact

Afternoon topic: The Formation of the Visegrad Group – the Best Response to the Post-Cold War Circumstances in Central Europe

Evening: Cultural programme (museum)
