In light of recent developments, the credibility of Article V has been questioned. New demands have been placed upon the concept since the end of the Cold War. While NATO is the most successful defence alliance in the world history, it requires constant reassessment to cope with the latest challenges. This has in effect widened the geographic area of collective security. If NATO is to assume its global role, it must act accordingly.
