The aim of the seminar is to analyze and discuss the various strategies and instruments of the German government in ensuring the social welfare of its respective citizenries in the context of the financial crisis. The core question is whether the tools used in fighting the economic downturn have been adequate in maintaining traditional social model and whether they can be sustained going into the future. Did the German social market economy and its social model successfully bear the political and economic burden that the crisis has placed on them? Or has is simply been weakened? If so, does it need to be reshaped if it want to survive in the future?
