Venue: Václav Havel Library, Ostrovní 13, Prague 1, Czech Republic

On December 19, the Prague Security Studies Institute, in cooperation with the Václav Havel Library, is organizing a debate with Peter Pomerantsev, renowned journalist and British expert on Russian propaganda.

It's been more than three years since protests began in Kyiv, which eventually led to Russia annexing the Crimean Peninsula and protracted conflict in eastern Ukraine that continues until today. In an effort to regain its diminished place in the world, Russia's adventurism has also been displayed in Syria, where the ability to project power abroad is purposefully used for mobilizing domestic support.

Mr. Pomerantsev will delve into these issues and shed light on the West’s inclination to be seduced by the growing Kremlin’s influence in the world. He will also share his experience from life in Moscow, where he spent almost a decade and introduce his book ‘Nothing is True and Everything is Possible: The Surreal Heart of New Russia', which has recently been published in Czech language as ‘Nic není pravda a všechno je možné: Surreálné srdce nového Ruska’ (https://www.dokoran.cz/index.php?&p=book&id=946). The book will be available for purchase during the discussion.

The discussion will be moderated by Michael Žantovský, former diplomat and director of Vaclav Havel Library.

The event will start at 5 p.m. at Vaclav Havel Library, Ostrovní 13, Prague 1. The language of the event is English. No registration is needed.
